Safe and Effective Earth Friendly Recipes
I use 20 Mule Team borax and Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda in equal parts in the washing machine.
You can make a Borax Liquid Soap by filling a 1 gallon jug with cold water. Add 1/8 cup of borax powder and shake well. Let the residue settle to the bottom and pour off the clear part. This is the liquid soap. Use for dishes, in the dishwasher, and as a shampoo (will not lather).
Vinegar Hair Rinse:
Take 1 Gallon of white vinegar and add a sprig of Rosemary. After shampooing, rinse hair and let sit for a minute. Rinse with water. Works for dandruff, flaky scalp and removes shampoo build-up.
Black Walnut Hull Tincture:
In the fall, gather green hulls from the Black Walnut tree before they drop. Peel them (wear gloves as they stain) and place into a ½ gallon glass jar. I fill the jar as much as I want to and cover with alcohol. You can use any 40% proof or more alcohol: Vodka, whiskey ect. Let stand for 2-3 weeks and strain.
For Yeast Infection:
Take Boric Acid and fill any size vegetable capsules. Insert 1 or 2 into the vagina preferably at night. Use till symptoms are gone. Safe during pregnancy, however, use for 2 days on then 1 day off, repeating as necessary.
You may also fill the capsules with lactobacillus acidophilus or Friendly Flora (aka beneficial bacteria) and insert into the vagina. Alternatively, douche with 1 drop of Melaluca oil and a dropper full of Pau’dArco tincture in warm water.
At the first sign of a cold or flu, fill caps with ground cayenne pepper and swallow 1 or 2 every 4 to 6 hours. This is safe to use with children who can swallow caps. Use at any stage of the illness. Cayenne will also dilate arteries and may save a life of some one having a heart attach and should be in every first aid kit.
