Alder Brooke Healing Arts

Meet Sayward Ayre, ND!

Sayward Ayre has been focused on health and wellness since her 20's. Over the years she healed herself from a number of illnesses - hypoglycemia, a ruptured disc, vision problems, a painful spot in her lung caused by second-hand smoke, and plantar fasciitis, simply by educating herself and applying that knowledge.

Sayward became a certified Massage Therapist in 2001, and worked in the La Quinta and Palm Desert resorts of southern California for 4 years. She received her Naturopathic Doctor degree from Dr. Joel Robbin's College of Natural Health in 2004, when she began holding juice fasting retreats in the Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs areas. She is also certified as a Counselor of Natural Health, and as a Cleanse Trainer.

Currently she is researching how to integrate frequency therapy and regression hypnosis in conjunction with the juice fasting retreats to facilitate healing at the DNA level. Her abilities also include sensitivity to the spiritual realms, and she has occasionally assisted healings on those levels as well.

Sayward has been helping people to higher health for over a decade.  She can be contacted at sayward.a@gmail.com  Read testimonials for her work by cliking here. Follow her blog at Sayslife.wordpress.com

Nancy Chiappe and her new treatment room

As a holistic practitioner, I aspire to assist my clients in freeing themselves from obstacles so that they may experience health and wholeness in their lives.  My vocational calling to bodywork, and now to colon hydrotherapy, reflects my desire to provide a means, a tool, an avenue, for my clients to release tension, waste and thought patterns which may be holding them back from reaching their true potential.

Many thanks to Tara for the inspiration and empowerment she has offered me on my own journey.  May I be blessed enough to pay it forward!

Meet my Dad, Jonathan Brooke Alder.  He has been an inspiration for my personal healing arts and professional practice.

My dad passed away 6 months after being diagnosed with acute leukemia.  As I write this, it was 18 years ago today.  11/4/1994.   He was 46 years old.   Before my dad passed we became very close.  I miss him very much.

Just over a year after his passing, my son Isaiah Brooke Alder was born.  Isaiah was born on my dads dads birthday.

My dad wrote a credo.  He made me and my brothers sign it.  Words of wisdom.  My dads spirit lives on!

1. Think good thoughts and say good things.

2. Read - if you read 5 books on any subject, you may become an expert.

3. Set goals - short term and long term. Put them in writing.

4. Integrity with others. To thine own self be true. Honesty and
integrity with others develops TRUST.

5. Self discipline. Keep commitments - to others and to yourself.

6. Be responsible. Your lot in life is strictly up to you. Follow
through with your commitments. Check in to ensure completion.

7. Seek out the right kind of friends and associates.

8. Learn to handle the failures and setbacks.

9. Go the 2nd mile. Do TWICE what is expected.

10. Invest in yourself. Be open to learn, have fun and grow.

11. Forgive. Give a 2nd chance (but maybe 3 strikes and you're out).

12. Do unto others as you would want others to do unto you.

13. Allow yourself to feel emotions and allow others the same.

14. Recognize that other people are different with regard to values,
emotions, etc. This is okay.

15. Listen to others -- you may learn something. You rarely learn
anything while you're talking.

16. Mistakes will be made. But it's truly a sad mistake when nothing
is learned from your mistakes.

17. Dream the IMPOSSIBLE DREAM.

18. Never give up.

Aloha friends,

Autumn is here and we are still enjoying sunshine in Eugene!  Colorful leaves are falling, the air has become crisp, and we are left feeling a sense of deep grounding to the Earth. This is the perfect time to go within, connect and listen to our bodies.

I am personally on a healing journey.  Spring and summer was amazing for me.  I enjoyed great physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.  My financial health was even ok, too. :-)

Watch me soar!

I appreciated dancing, yoga, swimming with turtles and dolphins, biking and experiencing new friends become dear friends as we grew and processed together.

Yes, life was good!

My son's father married a beautiful, kind and intellegent woman.  I was treated as family at the wedding.  How cool is that?

My younger brother visited with his family for the first time since I moved to Eugene 17 years ago.  We had a blast!  They loved my green smoothies!  There was so much to appreciate!

It seemed like my life was unfolding perfectly.  I had a therapist in place and my business plan was taking root.  Unfortunatly, the business relationship, like some personal relationships, did not work out.  I chose to resign after helping to open the medical center.  So, I am currently seeing clients exclusively at my home based business.

I was hurt as my business relationships fell apart.  Thank goodness my family, friends, colleagues and attorney supported me all the way through this process.   My ego had been smooshed, but you know that is probalby a good thing, since egos need to stay in check.  Also, my dear friend Tom Carter passed away.  Remember him?

I will always be your "moon glow" Tom!

Some time has passed and my focus has shifted to appreciating the lessons learned through this experience.  This new season reminds me of a mantra that I lived by years ago,  "Fall like a leaf, with grace, trusting that I will land exactly where I need to "I wish I would have remembered this as I was falling this summer...  I did not feel grace or trust.  I was humbled, but you know what they say, once you hit the bottom, there is only one place to go from there, up.

As we move into the fall and the darkness seems to overpower the light, it is important to remember all is in Divine right order whether we understand it or not.  When the light seems to be fleeting, seek comfort in trusting the process in the unfolding of life and connect with friends and family.  Remember to go within yourself and listen to the quiet.   Find that peace and carry it forward with you.   Trust that patient little voice, it is likely wiser than the louder ones.  Remember who you are and what you stand for.  Believe in yourself!

I am relearning to be gentle with myself, to love myself and to forgive myself, as well as others.  We are all children of the universe, being born each moment.

In support of my healing process I am releasing the old and opening to the new, fresh and vital.  I am focusing on proper food combining, resting and digesting, chewing more than I think I need to and using the essential oils that assist me in raising my vibrational frequency.  I am dancing, biking, swimming, enjoying friends and wholesome meals.  I am dancing my prayers.  In fact, I even enrolled in the Nia white belt teacher training program!  Check out NIANOW.COM  Also, I have been working with Deb Chorney for counseling and Body Talk therapy.  Deb has helped me to move through this growth period.  She is available to support you too.  bodytalkcounselingeugene.com

RECIPES for my favorite new foods

Tostadas to live for!

Inspired by Rachel Hoffman at GoodnessMeGoddess.com and Ani Phyo at Aniphyo.com

Note that when I say blend you can use your food processor or blender, whatever works best for you.  I use both...

First start with the corn tortilla

Blend  till smooth 1 1/2 cups of fresh or frozen organic corn (3 to 4 ears) with 1/2 cup of flax meal (flax ground up) with 3 tbs olive oil and 3/4 cup of filtered water.
Spread 1/4 cup circles onto your dehydrator teflex sheets
Dehydrate at 104 degrees for about 6 hours then flip them and dehydrate for another 5 or 6 hours (till you get desired crispness or softness)

Basic cheese

Blend 2 cups of your favoirte soaked nuts with 1 to 2 cloves of chopped garlic, 1/2 tsp of sea salt, 1/3 cup of fresh lemon juice (2 lemons) and about 1/4 cup of purified water to create desired consistancy

Taco meat

Blend 1 cup of soaked walnuts with 1 tsp of extra-virgin olive oil, 1 tbs of ground cumin, 2 tsp of ground coriander (note that you can substitute your favorite seasoning, I like taco seasoning), 1 tsp of Braggs liquid amio acids or a soy sauce of your choice (I like shoyu) and 1/4 tsp of sea salt to taste

Spread the cheese onto the corn tortilla, then the meat and top with tomato, black olives, salsa, avocado, cilantro, fresh squeezed lime juice and of course love.  Or top with whatever you like!  Note that the toppings listed make for a heavy meal, you can lighten it up by skipping the olives and avocado...  Serves 4 and is great with a side salad.  Enjoy!  Remember to rest and digest, chew, chew, chew and take time to poo!

Crunchy Munchy Sweet & Savory Almonds

Inspired by "I am Spirit" Live Teriyaki Almonds by Cafe Gratitude

5 cloves of garlic, about a thumb of fresh ginger root, about 1/3 cup of dates and about 1/4 cup of shoyu or brags, mix in mini food processor w s blade (in a big food processor the power is too much and it sends the juices all over the kitchen leaking through the seems, no good) massage into soaked almonds.

Dehydrate at 145 for about an hour on teflex then turn down to 115 for 24 hours ish... Then flip onto screen for about another 24 hours.

Food Combining: A Way to Support Digestive Health

Most people understand that it is important to eat a healthy diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables and a balance of proteins, carbohydrates and fats.  What most people do not know is that it is just as important to consider proper food combining.

Consider that fruits and many green vegetables are high in water, fiber and enzymes.  These foods move through the digestive tract more quickly than other foods.  Most fruits will only be in the stomach 30 to 45 minutes before they move on to the small intestine for digestion and absorption of nutrients.  Starchy carbohydrates however are less fiber and water rich and may take 2 to 3 hours before they move from the stomach to the small intestine.  Proteins are the most complex foods taking the most amount of time in the stomach.  Some proteins will be in the stomach for 5 to 8 hours before they move on to the small intestine to complete digestion.

With this knowledge it makes sense to combine our foods to support this natural process.

Helpful Hints for Optimal Digestion
  • Digestion is a complex process.  By combining foods properly the body encourages this process to take place as efficiently as possible.
  • There are three basic types of food: Concentrated foods (proteins and carbohydrates), high water content foods (fruits and vegetables) and fats.  Proteins are the most complex (concentrated) food and require the most time and energy to digest and assimilate, where as fruit is the least complex (high water content) and takes the least amount of time and energy to digest and assimilate.
  • In your digestive system, the process to break down proteins, carbohydrates and fruit are entirely different, requiring different secretions. Therefore, to insure the most efficient digestion possible, these three foods should not be consumed simultaneously.
  • Do not eat fruit with any other food.  If fruit is eaten alone and on an empty stomach, it will have the effect of washing and cleansing the digestive tract leaving it more capable of absorbing nutrition and eliminating waste.
  • Proteins and starchy carbohydrates should not be combined.  If a protein is eaten with a starchy carbohydrate, such as meat and a piece of bread or a potato, the different digestive juices in contact with each other will nullify each other’s effectiveness. The protein will putrefy and the carbohydrate will ferment.  This causes bloating and gas.
  • If a concentrated food (proteins or carbohydrate) is eaten with a sugar, such as nuts with raisins, it will putrefy, and the sugar will ferment.   Again, more bloating and gas.
  • Fermentation or putrefaction inhibits healthy cell structure and digestion.  The gases produced from fermentation and putrefaction are toxic to the body and can exhaust the other detox organs (lungs, liver, kidneys, skin and lymphatic system).
  • Add steamed vegetables or a mixed vegetable salad with all concentrated foods (proteins and carbohydrates) for optimum digestion.  The enzymes in raw veggies help digest difficult food combinations.
  • Drinking fluids along with or after a meal dilute many of the digestive juices from the stomach.  This forces the body to secrete more digestive juices immediately, unnecessarily usurping energy.
  • Dairy products are highly mucous forming and difficult to digest. They do not combine well with anything. If they are eaten, they should be accompanied with a salad.
  • By adhering to proper food combining, the digestive system works much more efficiently, thereby conserving energy that can be utilized for the cleansing the body of accumulated toxic waste.
  • Feel great about your body and eating habits.  Slow down and enjoy each meal.  The better your digestion, the better the body’s absorption and metabolism.  Your body will automatically adjust to your optimal weight and remain there.
